About Hawaii

Aloha is a Hawaiian word that is commonly used as a simple greeting but has a deeper cultural and spiritual significance to native Hawaiians, for whom the term is used to define a force that holds together existence. Some say, Aloha is recognizing “the Breath of God is in our presence”.

In the words of a renowned spiritual Kahuna teacher, David Bray, Aloha is an invitation to “Come forward, be in unity and harmony with your true self, God, and humankind. Be honest, be truthful, patient, kind to all forms of life, and humble”.

The spiritual side of Hawaii is in this Aloha Spirit…it’s a spirit because it's an aura that emanates from a feeling.

The Hawaiian culture embraces spirituality. Respect for the land is part of this spiritual prowess throughout the islands, one of the reasons why the Native Hawaiian community leads several efforts for environmental preservation. The respect for the land is rooted in this culture of spiritual power.

The land in Hawaii is filled with pristine beaches, mountains, caves, tropical jungles, volcanoes, stunning waterfalls, and a plethora of magnificent rainbows.

Hawaiian culture provides a much-needed break from the daily hustle and bustle, that is felt as soon as you step foot off the plane. The Hawaiian people are an amazing group with a very positive and welcoming spirit. It is important to them that we arrive at their home with pure intentions of respect, honoring the land and culture, moving beyond a “tourist” mindset of consumption and exploitation of the environment. They believe in holding celebrations and festivals featuring dancing, music, and delicious food.

Your Inner Exploration Awaits…

While on retreat we will be staying at the exclusive and remote Waipi’o Gardens Retreat Center. We will be onsite for the entire trip, with minimal excursions, but rather immersing ourselves in the jungle land, nearby hikes, waterfalls, and private black sand beach – with our focus being on daily movement (align method body weight classes and yoga), meditation (both silent and mantra/Kirtan), and massage & breath work.

The Food

We have a private chef and team who will be providing us with 3 phenomenal plant based meals a day all organic, gluten free, and vegan. Lydia’s Catering believes in “loving foods for the body, mind and soul – eat better, feel better.”

Our retreat is fully vegetarian and free of intoxicants. We invite you to experiment with living a yogic lifestyle, and adhere to these standards to help create a high consciousness atmosphere conducive for diving more deeply into self-discovery and Bhakti, which is always the primary objective of our retreats.

About Lomilomi

Lomilomi is the traditional bodywork of Hawai'i. It has existed since ancient times and been passed down through the generations by the Kahunas and healers of the islands. The movements of Lomi are inspired by the ocean waves, deep, rhythmic, and flowing. They are highly effective at moving energy and bringing the body, mind, and spirit into alignment. Sessions can also include stretches, twists, and joint rotations to create space in the body and release blockages.

Breath is very important during the Lomi sessions. Deep rhythmic breathing is a powerful catalyst for releasing tension, trauma, and unhealthy beliefs, so I will often guide some breathwork or meditation at the beginning, and encourage you to continue throughout the session, which will enhance the benefits you experience.

About Benj

My experience in healing arts began while traveling in Asia, studying Buddhist psychology and eastern philosophy, and practicing meditation. In 2016, I discovered Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage in a moment of pure synchronicity and was instantly drawn to it because of its heart-centered, holistic approach and its capacity to go beyond standard massage, accessing the psychological and spiritual realms as well as the physical. Over the next few years, I had the privilege of training in several lineages of Lomilomi with some excellent teachers. I founded Vermont Holistic Bodywork in 2016 and have been practicing and teaching Lomilomi Massage, Breathwork, The Body Tune Up method for healing Leaky Gut Syndrome, and more. I am honored and excited to be sharing Lomilomi with you all on this amazing retreat!
